Caribou Hide

Caribou Hide Covering

The skins are sewn together with strings of hide. The number of skins used depends on the size of the house. The upper part of the covering consists of skins cut in half and sewn onto the other whole skins. Old hide, the kind that is also used for patches on moccasins, is used for the top. The ends of the covering have strings which are used to tie the covering onto the poles of the frame. Loop-holes are made at the bottom of the covering to be tied to stakes that encircle the house.
